Also…the presentations today were really interesting and I had no clue that corn had many of these functions. Also, it was interesting to see Dr. Gibbon so in his element and so excited about all of the corn annotations. Poor Jesus and Bayless were being jibed at a bit though, but it was all done in a fun way so I guess it’s ok. I wonder how they feel about it though? lol

I can honestly not believe how quick;y this year has blown by. We have learned a lot and I honestly feel prepared, maybe even a little bit too much, for future biology courses. I also can’t wait to dive into research next year and continue upon what I’ve started this year! It has been tons of fun and I can’t wait to see everybody in their bright orange shirts tomorrow. Synchronized test-taking to the max, we even have matching outfits (mostly).

I am having a grad time wrapping my mind around the concept that this is the last lab for this class. There is no next semester this time. I will really miss this class. I have a feeling that next week I will get to 2:00 in the afternoon and feel like I’m forgetting something. It’s been fun!

Where has all of the time gone? I am glad and sad that we are almost done with Benedict’s annotations. We had ZERO known functions for our set of genes which was frustrating so hopefully, like Dr. Gibbon said, the maize annotations will be more rewarding. I am also confused on how I feel about the lab “final” that we will be having. On one hand it was a surprise, especially because I asked if we would have a final during the final slots and was told, no that it would be during class hours if we had one and it will take away some much needed study time for the actual bio test. But on the other hand, it doesn’t interfere with my leaving time for the summer and it will be a lot of fun to have a party! That’s a good last hoorah before the bio final, right?

It didn’t hit me that the year was close to being over with until I got the e-mail the other day from SEA asking us to complete those surveys, which I think I’m about to do (there will be a pizza party if I do, right? jk). Also, missing lab this past Tuesday has really thrown me off but by reading some other people’s blogs, I’ve learned there are some interesting things happening. Firstly, congrats Anna for being chosen as our speaker! Second, it has been so long since I even looked at my annotations that I hope I can jump back in on them easily on Tuesday’s lab. And lastly, the corn gene annotations sound interesting and I hope we get more information about them soon, especially with school almost being done with as previously mentioned and so many projects coming up in many different classes. Only 8 more days of classes!

I think I’ve got some viral infection, which unfortunately, there is no quick fix for. This means I will not be able to go to lab today. Now that I think about it, there’s no lab on Thursday because of Diadeloso
No lab this week at all? I wonder what we are doing today? Hopefully, I’m feeling better tomorrow for the BIG bio test.

I am so proud of our entire class’s posters. The mock presentations were more entertaining than I thought they would be and it helped a lot to anticipate what people may ask. I was also thrilled that my group’s poster was chosen for although everyone’s posters were truly great. It must have been a really hard decision for Dr. Adair and Dr. Gibbon!

I am glad that we were able to finish our posters. I have never truly seen how a scientific poster looked and now know what is expected for them. Good learning experience and can’t wait to present next week for URSA scholars work. I do wonder if we will get to present our own posters or have to present someone else’s though.

With all of the computer issues we’ve had throughout this course, I believe it verifies that I’m cursed with technology. Computers never like to run perfectly for me and I have lost countless hours of work due to something going wrong. I am sorry I have extended this curse to the class at times
and if anything I encourage you to always save your work…and frequently!

Is this the end of our gene annotations? If so, I will be relieved and am ready for a new activity…and Spring Break! What will we do after this? o.0
