I met your dad back in 2001 or so. I visited him with Lynn who knew him from SoCal. He and I ate huge plates of steamed clams in the easternmost Mexican restaurant in the United States. We shared a wonderful fourth of July together. I wanted to visit him again. I am sorry he is gone. I was pleased to have met him. We will salute him when we go to Eastport. He created beautiful things.

Gabrielle - This is exactly how I will remember your Dad. I did not get to meet him until 2005 with Aunt Doris and knew there was something special about him and is incredible artistic abilities. Fascinating to watch him work and keep up the talking at the same time. He told us the story of Big John Mullen taking the window out of the shop on Dana Street and putting the big kiln in through the window. That must have been a sight to see. I will look for some fun pictures of your Dad and would like to send them to you as soon as I can sort them out. We will miss him always. John and Roxie

Gabrielle,

I have been living in Eastport going on four years now and for the past three summers I would stop in to Don's shop. I would frequently stop in for a brief chat, however, they eventually turned into an hour plus conversation. I always enjoyed his company and only just recently heard of his passing. I will miss our shop and sidewalk chats, running into him in Ellsworth and joining him for breakfast and his quick wit and charming smile.

I am honored to have had the opportunity to call him friend and I will miss him dearly. My summers will not be the same. Your family is in my prayers.

I am so sorry about Donnie's passing. My father Philip Clement and he were cousins and when they got together we would always here the stories of growing up in Eastport. When I saw Donnie he would always ask me do you have any of those brownies for me. Whenever I use to bake them I would always take him some and he would tell me it must be your birthday soon come down and pick out a bowl. When my husband Jack died at the age of 49 two years ago I stopped baking because my world was dark and sleep was my friend. But as the days and months passed and with the help of family and friends I started to look at the world again. And when donnie told me he had to go in the hospital I promised him I would make him some brownies when he came home. But that didn't happen and I like to think there is a heaven and my Jack and my dad and donnie are there together and free of pain and simply happy. And I will see them again. Until then love Karen

My sincere condolences to you and your family. Your father was one of those men who added strength and grace to the planet. Although I only met him a few times - mostly at the studio, the coffee shop or a church breakfast - he always remembered me and was ready with a smile and a few good words. Don was the kind of fellow you did not have to know a long time to like - you knew almost immediately that this was a good man, a man of honor and through his work one saw the immense size of his spirit.
Take Care,
Sharron Norman

I grew up two houses up from your gram Bea on Adams St. I can remember hanging out with a girl that visited her gram in Eastport many years ago. Was that you? We would play songs on the juke box at the corner store across from the breakwater. So sorry to hear about your dad. Everyone in the area will so miss his works of art; all the ladies loved his bowls.

Your dad was a great man, artist and thinker. I just learned of his death. My condolences. I spent five years in Eastport and your dad and I (though different politically and I'm 30 years younger) became very close. He was a great supporter and proponent of my art and writing. I'd see him daily and we always enjoyed a good laugh or good moan.

I'll miss him something wicked.
