It is finished…..

Let me first begin by saying congrats to everyone in lab. Through these past tedious days, we have sequenced our own segment of the Benedict genome! I feel pretty confident in my annotations, except with two or three genes (hopefully, they code for unknown proteins). With these uncertainties, I had a hard time deciding which factor should I stick with when deciding to call a gene. High SD score with poor Blastx results or low SD score with appropriate Blastx results? After submitting my annotations I started to have second thoughts about the uncertain genes. Oh well, let’s just hope for the best!

3rd Week of Lab Already!

Greetings Bears in the Sea! I can’t believe it has already been 3 weeks in the lab! It feels like just yesterday when I confusedly walked into the computer lab thinking I was at the wrong place. Throughout these past three weeks, I have learned so much about the dynamics of bio informatics. From annotating genes to determining protein functions, I cannot wait to get my hands on Benedict! Lastly, I look forward to work with everyone in lab!

Hello world!

Greetings Bears in The SEA!! I am very excited to be working with everyone here and cannot wait what mystery our bacteriophage, Benedict has in store for us! In the first week of lab, we have learned several ways (primitive to modern ways) DNA can be sequenced and interpreted using biotechnology and bio informatics. As the second week of lab is underway, I am continued to be amazed on how there are several programs on the computer that could aid in determining genes and proteins! With the surplus of  resources at hand, I could even start a few independent projects of my own (with permission of Dr. Adair and Dr. Gibbon of course)! Again, I look forward to be working with everyone!
