I absolutely CANNOT believe that today was our last lab ever! I still remember walking into D310 and thinking “what have I gotten myself into?” But I’m happy to say that I’ve enjoy this experience very much and I can’t imagine spending an entire year with a better group of people!

Today in lab we worked on our final gene presentation. It was a little stressful because we did not know where to start, but after we started it became much easier. I’m glad that we were able to finish most of it during class because this week is crazy! Less than two more weeks until summer, everyone! :)

Like everyone else, I can’t believe that this semester is ending! Freshmen year has flown by! I’m also sad that our year together is ending :( The best part of this class has definitely been the people in it  and I don’t know what I’m going to do without y’all and bacteriophage next year! Reunions all of the time, please! Today in lab we spent half the time talking about the honors project and although I’m a little stressed out with the idea of another project on my plate, it actually seems pretty interesting!

So we’re almost done with our poster and it feels so good! When Dr. Gibbon and Dr. Adair told us that we had a week to make a scientific poster I didn’t think it was possible, especially since most of us have never made a legit poster before. But now that we’re almost done, I’m actually pretty excited to see the finished product and to see everybody else’s poster!

I think everyone is excited for Spring Break because we were all pretty restless today in lab. However, it was exciting to see people defend some of their calls. I can’t wait to move on to finding the function of Benedict’s genes!

I think that we have the best group ever! We had so much fun practicing for our presentation last night and we had too much fun writing our email to Dr. Gibbon and Dr. Adair :) It was fun to see everyone’s gene calls today and I realized how easy it is to miscall a gene, but it’s nice having other people to check your annotations!

Today we worked on finishing our group annotations and on our presentation for Tuesday. It was really cool to compare all of our annotations and gene calls and see if we had called them correctly. There were only a few disagreements, but we were able to resolve them pretty easily. The presentation took longer than we thought it would, but we finally finished it! I’m excited to see everyone else’s!

Today I finished annotating my genes and it was very exciting to finish! I made sure to check over my annotations and I even starting comparing some of them. I’m excited to see if all my annotations match up!

Today Dr. Gibbon had us do a really fun activity. We had to assemble a sequence from scratch and my team won! (Frank didn’t win, for the record) It was a fun way to visualize shot gun sequencing and I definitely understand the concept better!

Today we continued to defend our genes and talk about our annotations. It was a bit tedious at times, but it was a good refresher on how to locate genes. I know that I’m going to need all the practice I can get! :)
